Beverly, February 23, 1933
The regular meeting of the Board of Trustees was held at the Library on Thursday, February
23rd at 4 P.M., there being present of the Trustees, Miss Loring, Mrs. Motley, Mr. Cronin, Porter,
Small, Delaney, Woodberry and Pond.
The records of the meeting of January 26th were read and approved.
Mr. Small then presented, for the Finance Committee, the summary of expenditures for
January and February, 1933.
He also reported that that Committee had met with the Mayor to discuss the budget for the
year, and that though the Mayor had given no evidence of his intention to cut the amount asked for
by the Board of Trustees, he had later cut the sum of $1200.00 from the maintenance item.
It was voted that a Thousand dollars of this $1200.00 be taken from Book item; and the
Secretary was instructed to write the Mayor, pointing out that since there had been very little increase
in appropriations for up keep of buildings during the last five year, and very little chance to curtail
expenditures along those lines, this cut must necessarily result in lessened book service to the public.
The Committee on Circulation recommended the purchase of 174 new titles and the receipt
of 10 gifts.
Voted: that this recommendation be accepted.
The report of the Librarian was read and placed on file.
Voted: to adjourn
