Delaney, Marian P. Motley, Rev. Clarence S. Pond, Fred H. Porter, and Horace W. Woodberry, Jr. Board members absent: Katharine P. Loring, Caleb B. Hood, and Robert O. Small Others present: Recorder: Marjorie H. Stanton Beverly, May 25, 1933 The regular meeting of the Board of Trustees was held at the Library on Thursday, May 25th at4P.M. There were present, of the Board, Mrs. Motley, and Messrs. Porter, Delaney, Pond, Woodberry and Cronin. In the absence of Miss Loring, Mrs. Motley was elected Chairman pro tem. The Secretary read the records of the meeting of April 27. Voted: that these be approved. The Secretary presented the report of the Finance Committee, giving summary of expenditures and balances for the first five months of the year. Voted: that the report be approved. The report of the Librarian, giving details of circulation and registration, and a short account of the Essay Contest and of the prizes to be award from Miss Sohier's Fund, was read and approved. The Trustees voted to close the Library at 8 P.M., as in former years, except on Saturdays, from June 1st until Labor Day. They also voted to refer to the Administration Committee the matter of requesting the police to stop older boys and men playing ball on the upper end to the Common during the evening hours. It was voted to omit the July and August meetings of the Board, subject to call by the Chairman. The Administration Committee made report of progress in repairs at the Farms Branch, particularly of improvements to the grounds. The Circulation Committee recommended the purchase of 74 new titles and the receipt of 91 gifts Voted: that this recommendation be approved. Mr. Woodberry reported that he had had a talk with Mayor Eaton as to the advisability of fixing up the present Document Room for a Reading Room, and the probable cost of the same: and it was voted to leave to the Administration Committee the matter of getting estimates. Upon learning of the death of the wife of Mayor Eaton, the Board voted that the Secretary send to him a note expressing the deep sympathy of the Trustees, and that the Secretary send flowers for the services, also in the name of the Board of Trustees.
