Birmingham, W. Lincoln Boyden, Jr., Saul J. Cagan, Philip Rowe, and Robert O. Small Board members absent: Louisa V. Conrad, Dorothy Cook, and Lawrence E. Foster Others present: Recorder: Marjorie H. Stanton March 29, 1951 The regular meeting of the Board of Trustees was held on Thursday, the 29th, at 7:30 P.M. with Mr. Delaney and Messrs. Boyden, Cagan, Birmingham, Rowe and Small in attendance. The records of the meeting of March 1 were read and approved, after which Mr. Delaney moved to the organization of the board. By ballot, Mr. Delaney was unanimously elected Chairman, Mrs. Conrad Secretary, and Miss Stanton clerk. Standing Committees will be appointed by the Chairman and announced at the next meeting. The budget for 1951, just received from the City Government, was then discussed; and it was voted that since the item $1500 for completing repairs and improvements at the Farms Branch had been cut from the budget as approved, a request for the original sum of $2500 should be sent to the City Government by the Commission on Repairs at the Farms - signed by Mr. Delaney as Chairman. Mr. Delaney reported, for the Administration Committee, that new back doors were urgently needed at the Main Library, that all outside ironwork needed painting to protect it against the weather, that the reading rooms had not had a coat of paint since 1936. It was suggested that a list be made of all such items which might be taken care of by the proposed Maintenance Crew of the City, if this Crew were established by the City. The Circulation Committee recommended the purchase of 296 titles and the acceptance of 44 gifts. This was approved. The report of the Librarian was then presented and placed on file. After which the meeting was adjourned. Marjorie H. Stanton Clerk
