January 25, 1951
The regular meeting of the Board was held at the Library on January 25, at 7:30 P.M., with
Mr. Delaney, Mrs. Conrad, and Messrs. Cagan, Foster, Rowe and Small in attendance. The records of the meeting of December 28 were read and approved.
Since no word had been received about the budget for 1951, the Finance Committee could
make no report beyond the statement that expenditures to date had been normal.
Mr. Delaney reported, for the Administration Committee, that he and Miss Stanton had called
upon the Mayor, to ask that before the budget was taken up, he - the Mayor - would allow them to
explain to him the increases in various items which were being asked for. The Mayor had promised
that this would be done.
Mr. Delaney also reported, for the Administration Committee, that there was a small leak near
the skylight in the Main Library Hall, and that he would have this attended to at once.
A letter was received from Mrs. Fesitt of Beverly Farms, requesting that the Boy Scouts be
allowed to use the hall one evening a week for their meeting.
Miss Stanton was asked to write her that the Trustees had voted since the library closed at
6 P.M. and the janitor's hours were over at that time, it did not seem wise to grant this request.
A letter was received from Mrs. Palmer, asking that the Trustees once again pay the insurance
on her car which is used to carry books to shut-ins. Voted: that this be paid from Trust Funds.
The Circulation Committee recommended the purchase of 73 books and the acceptance of
4 gifts. This was unanimously approved.
The Librarian' report, giving a summary of circulation, registration and general activities for
the year 1950 was read and placed on file.
It was voted that Miss Stanton be allowed to order eight small chairs for the Children's
Room, to replace the present ones which are beyond repairing and that she begin to build up, from
Trust Funds, a permanent film collection to be used with the projector given by the Rotary Club.
