Cagan, Louisa V. Conrad, Dorothy Cook, Lawrence E. Foster, Philip Rowe, and Carl Zeilon Board members absent: John C. Birmingham, and W. Lincoln Boyden, Jr. Others present: Recorder: Marjorie H. Stanton Beverly, November 23, 1951 The regular meeting of the Board was held on Thursday, November 23, at 7:30 P.M., with Mr. Delaney, Mrs. Conrad, Mrs. Cook, and Messrs. Cagan, Foster, Rowe, and Zeilon in attendance. The records of the meeting of October 25 were read and approved, as was the statement of the Finance Committee giving details of expenditures and balances for the month. The Administration Committee reported that a bad leak had developed round the skylights at the Main Library, and that an estimate of $406.00 had been given by As the price necessary to replace broken panes of glass, putty all glass, and repair or replace flashing - leaving work outside the parapet to be done next Spring. Mr. Delaney also reported that Mr. Clark, of the City Maintenance Crew had done some repair work to the front door at the Farms Branch and had examined the outside lights there in which two panes of glass are broken. He also announced that he was to confer with Mr. Duwart about completing repairs at the Branch. The Circulation Committee recommended the purchase of 289 titles and the acceptance of 202 gifts. This recommendation was approved. The budget for 1952, as prepared by the Finance Committee at its meeting on November 3rd, was then taken up item by item, and it was voted, unanimously, to adopt it without change. For Salaries $45,959 For Maintenance $19, 150 $65,109 making a total of $65,109 or an increase of $18,786 over that of 1951 - (granted) The Librarian' s report of activities to date was read and placed on file. Mr. Delaney was requested, as Chairman, to prepare the annual report of the Board, to be read at the next meeting and then sent to the City Government as soon after the first of the year as possible.
