Beverly, April 26, 1951
The regular meeting of the Board of Trustees was held at the Library on April 26, at 7:30
P.M., with Mr. Delaney, Mrs. Conrad, and Messrs. Birmingham, Boyden, Cagan, Foster, Rowe, and
Small in attendance.
The records of March 29 were read and approved, as was the statement of the Finance
Committee, giving appropriations, expenditures, and balances to date.
It was voted that a letter be sent to the Mayor, requesting that the Maintenance Crew of the
City be put to work at the Main Library, painting both the Adult Reading Room and Children's
Room, the ironwork outside the building, and, if possible, replacing the worn-out back doors with
others originally belonging at the Farms Branch.
The Circulation Committee recommended the purchase of 96 titles and the acceptance of 90
gifts. This was approved.
A check for the two dollars was received from the American Legion Auxiliary, Earle T.
Wardell Unit 12, with a request that it be used to pay subscriptions to two magazines, one for Briscoe
Junior High and one for Senior High School, which have the approval of the History Department at
each school.
Miss Stanton was asked to send the thanks of the Board to the Auxiliary, for this very
welcome gift.
The Librarian' s report, giving details of circulation and registration during the month, and
telling of visits to the Branch and to the Noah Beverly and Ryal Side Deposit Stations was read and
placed on file.
At Miss Stanton's suggestion, a letter was sent to Mr. David Broudo, President of the North
Shore Artists Guild, explaining that because of fire laws, no smoking could allowed in the Hall. It
was also voted that a sign to that effect be placed in the Hall.
Mrs. Florence Taylor Hall. Who had been employed as a regular assistant, in a clerical
position, for twenty-five years previous to her marriage five years ago, asked to be considered as an
applicant for the position of regular general assistant left vacant since the resignation of Mr. Norton
Cann last September.
She was appointed to this position at a salary of $1700 a year.
The following standing Committees for the year were appointed by the Chairman, Mr.
