Birmingham, W. Lincoln Boyden, Jr., William A. Rowe, and Robert O. Small Board members absent: Thomas J. Casey, Louisa V. Conrad, Lawrence E. Foster, and B. Frederick Yoffa Others present: Recorder: Marjorie H. Stanton Beverly, October 28, 1948 The regular meeting of the Board was held on Thursday, October 28, at 7:30 P.M., Mr. Delaney, and Messrs Birmingham, Boyden, Rowe and Small being present. The Secretary's report of the meeting of September 30 was read and approved. - The report of the Finance Committee was presented and approved. The Committee also stated that though the request for the additional appropriation of $815.00 had been referred to the Mayor for approval, by the Finance Committee of the City Government, noting definite had been done about the matter. The Committee on Circulation recommended the purchase of 139 new titles and the acceptance of 167 gifts. This was approved. The report of the Librarian, including the statement that Mrs. Dorothy Day of Beverly Farms had been engaged as the Branch Librarian in place of Mrs. Deborah McGann who had resigned, was read and placed on file. With the engaging of Mrs. Day, as Branch Librarian and Mrs. Olive White as part-time assistant there, the Branch is once more on a satisfactory working basis. It was voted to subscribe for 1949, for the same newspapers as those taken for 1948, the order again to be placed with the Merrill Company of Beverly. It was voted to hold a Finance Committee meeting at 4 P.M. on Monday, November 15, in order to have the budget for 1949 ready for the consideration of the Board at its meeting on November 18th: - that being the date set for the next regular meeting which would otherwise fall on Thanksgiving Day.
