Stanton Beverly, May 27, 1948 The regular meeting of the Board was held at the Library on Thursday, May 27, at 7:30 P.M., with Mr. Delaney, Mr. Birmingham and Mr. Small in attendance. According to the By-laws, three members of the Board constitute a quorum when there has not been a quorum present at the two preceding meetings of the Board. Consequently, after the reading of the Secretary's report of the previous meeting, all action taken at that time was ratified. The report of the Finance Committee was read and approved, and it was decided to consider at the next meeting the matter of the inadequacy of the budget for this year and the best method of bringing the need for more funds before the City Government. Mr. Delaney, reported, for the Administration Committee, that the bean pole fence had been repaired at the Farms Library; that the front steps had been pointed up; that the wire fence had been ordered; and that he would attend to the matter of having gaps in the hedge in front of the building filled in. He also reported that at the Main Library, there was need for more shelves in the Genealogy Room and in the stacks, as well as need to extend the lights in certain corners of the stacks. He was authorized to go ahead with this work at once. The Report of the Circulation Committee, recommending the purchase of 160 books, was read and approved. The Librarian gave a summary of circulation and registration for the five months of the year, and a detailed account of the activities in the Children's Department during May.
