Beverly, June 26, 1947
The regular meeting of the Board was held at the Library on June 26 at 7:30 P.M., but
since only Messrs. Delaney, Birmingham and Small were present, all action taken was subject to
ratification at the next regular meeting of the Board.,
The Secretary's report of the meeting of May 29 was read and approved, as was the
report of the Finance Committee giving details of expenditures for the first six months of the year.
The Administration Committee reported that it had been necessary to purchase a new lawn
mower for Beverly Farms, since the old one was beyond repair; and that it would cost $275.00 or
$295 dollars to paint the iron work on the Main Library.
It was voted to let this painting go until another year, when prices might be lower, but to
see if the janitor might paint the hand rail on the front steps which is badly in need of paint.
The Committee on Circulation recommended the purchase of 241 titles and the acceptance
of 10 gifts. Voted: that this recommendation be approved.
The Librarian's report, with details of circulation at the Main Library and the outlying
stations, and the activities of the Children' s room during the first six months of the year, was read
and placed on file.
There was some informal discussion as the advisability of closing the Library for all or part
of Saturdays during the summer months, but it seemed wiser to wait until the City Government
took some action on the question of closing other City Departments on Saturdays. No action was
taken at this time, by the Trustees.
Voted: that the regular meetings of the Board be omitted during July and August, subject
to call by the Chairman if need arose.
Voted: to adjourn
