Diane Costa presided.
Neil Olson made the motion, seconded by Kay Fanning, to accept the minutes of May 26, 1998 as
read. Motion passed.
Kay Fanning made the motion, seconded by Edward Brindle, to accept the minutes of May 26,
1998 of the Long Range Planning Committee as read. Motion passed.
Neil Olson made the motion, seconded by Kay Fanning, to accept the minutes of June 2, 1998 of
the Committee of the Whole as read. Motion passed.
Public Presentation

Committee Reports
Personnel: Nell Olson reported that the Personnel Committee met on June 23, 1998 to discuss
Tom Scully's evaluation. Nell Olson and Diane Costa will set up a meeting with Tom Scully to
review the evaluation. Lindsay Diehl made the motion, seconded by Kay Fanning, to:
accept the recommendation of the Chair of the Personnel Committee to accept the
Director's evaluation. Motion passed.
Administration: No report.
Finance: Budget was passed by the City Council. Once again state aid will subsidize over spent
accounts. The Mayor will provide $40,000 for new computer equipment through his capital
bonding project. Final budget figure will be presented to the Board in September.
Long Range Planning: See Director' s report.
ReOort of Library Director
1 ) Action Plan: Tom Scully distributed copies of the Action Plan. Margaret Goodwin made the
motion, seconded by Edward Brindle, to:
have the Board accept for submission to the State the Long Range Plan as
presented with additions and corrections as noted. Motion passed.
2) Contracts: Mayor has signed Director's and Assistant Director's contracts. 3) Flood: The
library suffered a major flood on June 13, 1998. 5 inches of water on bottom floor, 3 feet of
water in the garage, 7-8 feet of water in the boiler pit, elevator pits filled with water. Tom Scully
met with the Mayor, City Engineer, and Public Works Commissioner to discuss the flooding
problem. 4) Farms Construction Project: On June 17 architects presented conceptual floor plans
for Farms Library.
Communications
1) Tom Scully thanked everyone for his birthday party celebration. 2) Diane Costa received
notification from the MBLC that a draft report on cooperation between schools and public
libraries will be mailed out to libraries.
Unfinished Business
1) Internet Policy: Internet policy was reviewed. No changes are needed. 2) New Member
Handbook: Lindsay Diehl discussed new member handbook. The master copy of the handbook
will include two years' worth of minutes. New member handbooks for current board members
will not include minutes.
