Present: Edward Brindle, Diane Costa, Lindsay Diehi, Kay Fanning, Margaret Goodwin, Neil Olson,
Kevin O~eilly, Helga Senko, John Young.
Also Present: Thomas Scully, Anna Langstaff.
Diane Costa presided.
Edward Brindle made the motion, seconded by Kay Fanning, to accept the minutes of April 28, 1998
as read. Motion passed.
Public Presentation
None
Committee Reports
Personnel: Neil Olson requested that trustees fill out director's evaluation form and mail to him by
June 1. Personnel Committee will meet Thursday, June 18 at 5 P.M. to discuss director's evaluation.
Committee of the Whole will meet on Tuesday, June 2 at 6:00 P.M. to discuss Director's and
Assistant Director's contracts.
Administration: No report.
Finance: On June 8 Tom Scully will make a budget presentation to the City Council.
Long Range Planning: Final draft of Long Range Plan will be presented at June Board meeting.
Report of Library Director
1) Job Openings: Mary Ryan has been hired as Braneh/Children's Librarian. Start date: mid June.
Kathleen Keeler has been hired as Young Adult Librarian. Start date: mid-July. 2) Budget: Tom
Scully has had several budget meetings with Mayor ScanIon. The Mayor has cut $20,000 out of the
part-time employee budget. There will be more meetings with the Mayor. 3) EBSCO Tom Scully
distributed copies of EBSCO periodical usage statistics (on file with these minutes).
Communications
1) Thank you note received from John Young Family. 2) Copies of Lindsay Diehl's Directory of
Services for the Beverly Public Library were distributed.
Unfinished Business
1) Work is continuing on the new member handbook.

The next meeting of the Board will he Tuesday, June 23, 1998 at 7:00 P.M. at the Main Library.
