Beverly, December 29, 1932
The regular meeting of the Board of Trustees was held on December 29th, at 4 P.M.; there
being present, of the Trustees, Miss Loring, Mrs. Motley, Messrs. Porter, Delaney, Small, Pond and
Cronin.
The Secretary read the records of the meeting of November 22, which were duly approved.
It was voted that, beginning January 1st, 1933, the custody of the Ryal Side Deposit be
transferred to Mrs. Theresa C. Keenan, she having leased from Daniel C. Keenan the room which is
used for library purposes of reading and book circulation.
The Committee on Circulation recommended the purchase of 79 titles and the receipt of 115
gifts. Voted: that this recommendation be approved.
Mr. Small presented the summary of expenditures for 1932, and after informal discussion, it
was voted that any balance in Equipment be used for the magazine rack and the chairs needed for the
Adult Reading Room.
He then brought up for discussion the budget for 1933, as prepared by the Finance Committee
of the Trustees; and it was voted to ask the City Government for an appropriation of $31,763.80 and
one half the dog tax, as the sum needed to carry on the work of the library during 1933.
The Finance Committee was authorized to present the budget to the City Government at the
proper time.
The report of the Librarian was read and placed on file.
After informal discussion it was voted to request the High School pupils, through Mr. Pierce,
to use the Adult Reading Room as far as possible before 6:30 P.M., thus leaving the room, during
the evening hours, to adult readers who can not come to the library during the day.
