1932-08-25City of Beverly, Massachusetts Public Meeting Minutes Board: Library Trustees Subcommittee: Date: 08/25/1932 Place: Beverly Public Library Board members present: Katharine P. Loring, Thomas F. Delaney, and William A. Rowe Board members absent: James A. Cronin, Caleb B. Hood, Marian P. Motley, Rev. Clarence S. Pond, Fred H. Porter, and Robert O. Small Others present: Recorder: Marjorie H. Stanton August25,1932 A meeting of the Board of Trustees of the Library was held on Thursday, August 25th, at 4 P.M. There were present of the Board, Miss Loring, Mr. Delaney and Mr. Rowe. Since this was not a quorum, all action was taken subject to approval by the Board at its next meeting. The meeting was called to order by Miss Loring, and the records of July 28th were read and approved. A summary of the condition of the finances to date was read, and also approved. The Committee on Circulation recommended the purchase of 63 new titles and the receipt of 56 gifts. Voted: - that this recommendation be accepted. A request was received from Mr. Keenan, of the Ryal Side Deposit, that, if possible, his salary be increased or some allowance be made him toward his winter coal, because of the fact that unusually large registration and circulation have obliged him to hire extra help, and because the larger number of readers will oblige him to provide heat for longer hours in the library room. No formal action was taken, in this matter, due to the absence of the Chairman of the Finance Committee but the hope was expressed, by the Trustees present, that it might be possible to give Mr. Keenan some additional allowance, from the Trust Funds, for the extra work entailed by the large increase in circulation. Also that it might be possible to give Miss Stanton and Miss Allen, from the Trust Funds, the increase in salary promised in the budget but later cut off by the Mayor. The report of the Librarian, giving figures of registration and circulation, and describing the "taking of stock" done through the summer months, was read and placed on file. Voted: to adjourn Adjourned Marjorie H. Stanton Secretary
