Loring, James A. Cronin, Marian P. Motley, Rev. Clarence S. Pond, Fred H. Porter, and Robert O. Small Board members absent: Caleb B. Hood, Thomas F. Delaney, and Horace W. Woodberry, Jr. Others present: Recorder: Marjorie H. Stanton Beverly, October 25, 1934 The regular meeting of the Board of Trustees was held at the Library on Thursday, October 25, at 4 P.M., there being present of the Trustees, Miss Loring, Mrs. Motley, and Messrs. Small, Cronin, Porter and Pond. The records of the meeting of September 27 were read and approved. Mr. Small presented the report of the Finance Committee, giving details of expenditures and balances. Voted: that this report be approved. The report of the Administration Committee was presented by Mr. Porter. Upon motion by Mr. Small, it was voted that this Committee be authorized to change the lighting in the Reading Room in accordance with specifications made by the Tenney Company; and upon motion by Mrs. Motley, it was voted that a screen similar to the one in the Children' s Room be installed at the entrance to the Adult Reading Room. Upon motion of Mr. Pond, it was voted to allow the City to take land of the Farms Branch necessary for the widening of Hale Street - the vote being as follows: - The Committee on Circulation recommended the purchase of the 221 titles and the receipt of 453 gifts - 185 of these being for the Farms Branch. The report of the Librarian was read and placed on file. Upon request of the Librarian, it was decided to hire a police officer, to keep order outside the Main Library and the Farms Branch during Halloween Week and as much longer as necessary. Estimates for the magazine list for 1935 were received from the F. W. Faxon Co. of Boston and the Leon Doble Co. of Beverly. After informal discussions, begun by Mr. Cronin's statement that he wished to go on record as favoring the local dealer, it was voted to give the contract to Mr. Doble at his price of $269.95 although this figure was $8.20 higher than that submitted by the Mr. Faxon. The Committee on Circulation presented the newspaper list for 1935, this list recommending the same papers as those subscribed to during 1934. Voted: that this be approved, and that the newspapers be ordered through the Nathan H. Foster Co. of Beverly. Voted: to adjourn Adjourned Marjorie H. Stanton
