Beverly, November 15, 1946
A special meeting of the Board of Trustees was held at the Farms Branch Library on
Friday, November 15, at 7:30 P.M., at which all the Trustees except Mr. Casey and Mr. Yoffa,
were present, and to which the residents of Beverly Farms had been invited.
The purpose of the meeting was to arouse more interest in the Library and to find out
ways in which the Library could be of more service to the people.
Mr. Delaney called the meeting to order and explained the cost of maintaining the Branch
and the need of extensive repairs, after which Miss Stanton, the Librarian, gave details of
circulation for the past thirty years, and then asked for suggestions as to how the service could be
improved and enlarged.
Mr. Wise proposed that Mr. Delaney appoint a committee of Farms residents to confer
and act with the Trustees on matters relating to the Branch, and others who were present
discussed hours of opening, story hours for children, the need of a full time janitor, and other
matters of interest.
The consensus of opinion was that afternoon and evening hours were preferable to
morning and afternoon hours, and that some uses of the hall for story hours or films for the
children was urgently needed.
Mr. Boyden told of the proposed repairs and changes which should be undertaken just as
soon as the City Government appropriated the money, after Mr. Delaney thanked and
suggestions, and the meeting was adjourned.
