The regular meeting of the Board of Trustees was held at the Library on Thursday, April
25, at 7:30 P.M.
There were present, of the Board, Mrs. Conrad, Messrs. Delaney, Boyden, Foster, Rowe,
and Small.
The records of the meeting of March 28 were read and approved. And all action taken at
that meeting at which there had not been a quorum, was ratified.
The report of the Finance Committee, giving expenditures and balances to date was read
and approved.
The Administration Committee reported that nothing of importance had happened during
the month and that it had nothing to recommend at this meeting..
The Circulation Committee recommended the purchase of 213 titles and the acceptance of
21 gifts. Voted that this recommendation be approved.
The Librarian's report, with a summary of library activities during the month, was read
and placed on file.
A letter was received, from Miss Hester Mitchell, an assistant at the Main Library, asking
that if Miss lane, the librarian at the Farms Branch, leaves to be married, she (Miss Mitchell) be
considered as an applicant for that position - at Miss Lane's present salary of $1450 (or at an
increase to 15000, and with the suggestion that the hours at the Branch be changed for her
transportation convenience.
Since Miss Lane had not yet sent in any letter of resignation, no action could be taken at
this time.
The matter of the application of Miss Jeanette Bolam for the position of part time assistant
at the Branch, which will be left vacant upon Mrs. Helen Campbell' s retirement at the end of May,
was then discussed by the Board. It was voted that the Secretary notify Miss Bolam that her
application had not been approved since she did not meet the requirements necessary for the
position.
The Secretary was also instructed to write Miss Alice Coffin, an applicant for a full time
position on the Staff, that there was no vacancy at present which she was qualified to fill.
Voted: to employ Florence Taylor Hall as a part time worker, at seventy cents an hour, to
continue doing the same sort of work which she did while a regular member of the Staff.
Voted: that the Administration Committee look as fully as possible into the question of the
amount of work now being done by the janitor at the Farms Branch, and to make a report on
conditions there at the next meeting of the Board.
Mr. Delaney, as Chairman of the Board, appointed the following standing committees for
1946: -
