Loring, Thomas F. Delaney, Mrs. E. Prebble Motley, Sr., and Robert O. Small Board members absent: W. Lincoln Boyden, Jr., Thomas J. Casey, Marion Glidden, William A. Rowe, and Moses I. Simon, Others present: Recorder: Marjorie H. Stanton May 28, 1940 The regular meeting of the Board of Trustees was held on Tuesday, May 28 at 4 o'clock. There were present, of the Board, Miss Loring, Mrs. Motley, Mr. Delaney, and Mr. Small. The records of the meeting of April 25th were read and approved. Voted: to ratify the votes taken at the meeting, at which there had not been a quorum present. Mr. Small presented the statement of the Finance Committee, giving expenditures to date and analyzing items on the budget as granted by the City Government. There was informal discussion as to the possibility of asking for more money in the fall. The Secretary was authorized to write the City Government at once, asking for a supplementary appropriation of $800.00, to bring the maintenance item to the amount allowed last year. A letter of resignation from Mrs. Rudkin was read, giving up the work of story-telling which she has been doing for the library for over fifteen years. Voted: that her resignation be accepted, with deep regret, and that the Chairman be authorized to send to Mrs. Rudkin a letter voicing the feeling of the Board. Voted: that the Library close as usual at 8 P.M. - Saturdays excepted, from June first until Labor Day. Voted: that the July and August meetings of the Board be omitted unless called for special session by the Chairman. Voted: that Mr. Delaney be authorized to attend to the matter of fixing the threshold at the front door of the Main Library, having power to act. The Committee on Circulation recommended the purchase of 63 new titles and the receipt of 60 gifts. This was approved. The report of the Librarian, giving details of circulation, certificate work and other activities was read and placed on file. Voted: to adjourn Adjourned Marjorie H. Stanton Librarian
