Loring, Thomas F. Delaney, Marion Glidden, Mrs. E. Prebble Motley, Sr., Rev. Clarence S. Pond, and William A. Rowe Board members absent: Thomas J. Casey, Moses I. Simon, and Robert O. Small Others present: Recorder: Marjorie H. Stanton September 28, 1939 The regular meeting of the Board of Trustees was held at the Library on Thursday, September 28th, at 4 P.M. There were present, of the Trustees, Miss Loring, Mrs. Motley, Messrs. Delaney, Small Rowe, Mrs. Glidden, Pond. The record of the regular meeting of June 29th and the special meeting of July 5th were read and approved. Mr. Small presented the report of the Finance Committee, giving a summary of expenditures since the last meeting and a statement of balances on hand. Voted: that this report be approved. At the request of the Librarian, Mr. Small asked that the Board request the City Government to transfer the sum of $300.00 from Maintenance Account to Salary Account to provide sufficient part time help for the balance of the year. Voted: that the Secretary write the City Government, asking for such transfer. After informal discussion, it was decided to go back to the former hours of opening at the Farms Branch, since the changed schedule tried as an experiment through the summer months had proved unsatisfactory. The matter of continuing the Deposit of Books at the Hospital was laid on the table, to be discussed again at some later meeting of the Board. A request was received from the Red Cross that the Chapter be allowed to use the Document Room for war work, if need arose. Voted: that this request be granted and the room placed at their disposal if needed. The Committee on Circulation reported that 2013 books had been added to the Library since the June meeting of the Board. This Committee also presented for discussion the magazine list for 1940. Voted that this be given to Leon Doble of Beverly for estimate. The Administration Committee reported that work on the roof had been completed according to specification and to the satisfaction of the Building Inspector of the City, and that it might now be possible to get a contract to paint the inside of the buildings - this work to be done by the W.P.A.
