Stanton Beverly, June 29, 1939 The regular meeting of the Board was held on Thursday, June 29th, at 4 P.M., there being present, of the Board, Miss Loring, Mrs. Motley, Mrs. Glidden, and Messrs. Delaney, Rowe, and Pond. The records of the meeting of May 25th were read and approved, as was the statement of the Finance Committee giving expenditures to date. The Administration Committee reported that the contract for painting the ironwork at the Main Library had been awarded to G. A. Barry of Beverly at the price of $135.00. It was voted that this Committee be authorized to expend a sum, up to $150.00 to make repairs on the ironwork, previous to the painting, and that if there was still any money available it should be used to paint the outside of the window sashes at the Main Library. This Committee was also asked to see whether the new sidewalk being laid on Essex Street could be continued in front of the library - the Library to bear cost of material. Since the Deposit of books kept at the Hospital for the use of patients had been returned to the Library, for lack of volunteer workers to distribute the books, it was voted to leave the matter fir discussion by the board until the September meeting. The report of the Librarian, summing up circulation, registration, certificate work for the first six months of 1939 was read and placed on file. Circulation reported the purchase of 132 new titles and the receipt of 49 gifts. Voted: to accept this report. It was voted, after informal discussion, to try the experiment of opening the Farms Library, daily, from 2 - 8:30 P.M., instead of from 2 - 8 for the first five days of the week and from 9-12 A.M. & 2 - 9 P.M. on Saturdays. The Administration Committee reported that estimates were being called for, for a twenty- year bonded roof for the Main Library, the work to be supervised by the Building Inspector of the City, and paid for from the Special Appropriation provided by the City Government. These bids are to be publicly opened before a special meeting of the Board of Trustees on Wednesday July 5th. It was voted that except for this meeting, there would be no meeting of the Board until September, unless otherwise called by the Chairman. Voted to adjourn Adjourned Marjorie H. Stanton Secretary
