Loring, Thomas F. Delaney, Mrs. E. Prebble Motley, Sr., William A. Rowe, Robert O. Small, and Mr. Trowt Board members absent: Thomas J. Casey, Rev. Clarence S. Pond, and Moses I. Simon, Others present: Recorder: Marjorie H. Stanton Beverly, March 30, 1939 The regular meeting of the Board of Trustees was held on March 30th at 4 o'clock, with Miss Loring, Mrs. Motley, Messrs. Small, Rowe, Delaney and Trowt in attendance. The records of the meeting of February 23rd were read and approved. Mr. Small, as Chairman of the Finance Committee, explained the budget items as granted for the year. This report was approved. It was voted to change the letter which the Trustees had decided to send to the Mayor protesting against his refusal to raise the salaries of the four lowest paid members of the Staff, so that it would include comparison of salaries of teachers with those of librarians, and would specify the exact amount requested for these four: Miss Aylward, Crafts, Preston, and Taylor. The date on which the letter should be sent was to be decided later. Voted: that the sum often dollars be taken from Trust Fund income, to be used for prizes in connection with the Junior High School Poetry Contest at the New York World' s Fair. Voted: that Mr. Delaney, as Chairman of the Administration Committee, be given authority to consult the Mayor about the much needed repairs to the roof of the Main Library. Voted: that because of the lack of money for substitutes, Mrs. Hurlburt be allowed only the customary two weeks sick leave with pay. The Committee on Circulation recommended the purchase of 93 new titles and the receipt of 62 gifts. This recommendation was approved. Voted: to adjourn Adjourn Marjorie H. Stanton Secretary
