Since the City Government had cut from the budget all salary increases asked for, for
members of the Staff, the Board discussed the advisability of sending to the Mayor a letter
protesting against the refusal to grant increases at least to the four lowest-paid assistants on the
Staff. - this protest to be based on the grounds that though other employees of the City had had
increases during the last few years, it had been eight years since the Trustees had been able to
allow the step increases which they had voted for the Library Assistants.
The Board approved this letter of protest, as drawn up by Miss Loring, but voted to leave
until the April meeting the question of deciding when it should be sent to the Mayor.
The Committee on Circulation recommended the purchase of 98 new titles. Voted: that
this recommendation be approved. There were no gifts.
Voted: that the Secretary send to Mr. Pond a note of the sympathy of the Board for him in
his illness, and expressing the hope that he would soon be improved in health.
Voted to adjourn
