Financial Update Report:
Martin Lawler was able to review the balance sheet. Invoices received from EKB and EJ Paving
and were paid for the completed maintenance yard drain project. Invoice also paid for elevator
inspection, Meyer Tree work, and the NE Nursery for completed work.
We have a balance of $66,599 in the FY21 budget.
BG&T Site Projects:
XGD, Hole #2 work schedule is on hold.
The contract with BSC for work to be done on holes #12 and #18 was approved, and contract is
with BSC for signature. Once returned, we can start the work.
Other Commission Projects Report:
MAAB Extension/ Automatic Door Opener – we cannot do the letter as of yet, Sean is still
waiting on the automatic door opener to be complete, so we can close these three items.
Electric Carts – we are also trying to get the cost for all carts to go to electric. Steve Murphy is
looking for an electrical engineer to design the plan for how this would work. National Grid will
want this. He did get a price for $2K for the engineering study. He would like to see if Sean had
a way that the city could perhaps look at this with the city electrical engineer. Pending.
OPM & Architect – we have an extension on the MOU to Dec. 31, 2020 due to COVID, but we
need to get a further schedule status on the OPM/Architect project. A further MOU extension
will be requested at a CPC meeting on November 19, 2020.
Golf Updates:
GFMI:
Bill Lowd asked Chris Carter if any lease payments had gone to the city. Chris advised he had
sent $50K a few months ago, and will fulfill the lease by the end of the year. Chris did want to
put on the record regarding the current status of the clubhouse and functions. If the trend
continues (little to no business due to COVID-19), this is a real concern. Chris said they are
working on PPP funding, but that he has not been able to meet with Brian Ayles since July. Chris
can fulfill the lease this year, but if the functions don’t come back, we will need to figure
something out. We are following the COVID-19 MA guidelines for restaurants/venues. The City
of Beverly has also elected to remain in Step 1 of the Phase 3 reopening guidelines, which has its
own restrictions.
We had a great month of golf in September, up 20 %. Looking at the numbers, we can rule out
April, but otherwise, the golf course was full every playable day of the season. YTD we are a
little over 30K rounds, and it looks like we will beat last year’s, probably coming in somewhere
between 33K to 35K rounds.
We also picked up 30 members, some new and some returning; this translates to $30K, green
fees, expected to surpass last year.
We have not done as well at the pro shop, sales, i.e. golf balls, gloves etc. Supply deliveries are
3-6 weeks behind schedule, and it’s had an impact on sales.
th
The 19 hole has been good, but is slowing down with the end of the season. The days are
shorter. We do think we are probably going to be short in revenue over last year. Again, we are
concerned about the function status, we’re not in a good place on this.
Chris spoke for Mike LaPierre with tennis. All is good, the season is winding down, they had
some great success.
Chris also advised the port a pottyequipment has been out all season and invoice is in. Last
pickup expected in November.
Steve Murphy advised that the maintenance yard came out fabulous, the landscaping looks great.
Adjournment:
Martin Lawler:Motion to adjourn the meeting, seconded by Arthur Athanas. The
motion carries (4-0).
