Board of Director's Meeting

Meeting called to order: 2:35 pm
Secretary's Report: January 7, 2020 Minutes were accepted, with two changes Counselor at
large, Julie Flower attended the BCOA Meeting in January. Verbiage within minutes correction
to riders, accepted rather than rides.
Director's Report
Building Concerns and Usage
City plumber installed the automated faucets in every restroom. The recent allocation of
approximately six thousand dollars from the Friends of the BCOA will pay for the installation.
Planning Department meeting was held at the Center on the evening of January 28
Recreation Department is using BCOA building on Monday and Wednesday evenings from
February 24 through May 13
Human Rights Committee met at BCOA on January 16 to discuss their role in getting folks to
complete the Census.
Administration and Finance
FY `20 YTD Budget Review Budget on target.
Seniorcare, Inc. Title III b grant contract has been amended and the Mayor approved and signed.
Programs and Events
Senior Soiree held on January 9 Once again, this event was very nice and well attended.
A trip to Northeast Animal Shelter to visit the shelter dogs and cats is planned for next week.
Mary Ann is the featured guest on "Livin' the Good Life "for the month of January.
Community Engagement
Merrimack Application for Community Engagement Fellow due this month.
Breakfast Club met on December 12 at the Beverly Senior center.
Multicultural Club will meet on February 6 th at 10:00 to 11:00 am, held in Rec room A, advance
sign up is necessary.
Game Night February 6 and 20, 4:30 to 6:00 pm, sign up at front desk held in Rec. room A.
Meetings /Activities /Clients of Concern
Friday February 14 — Seniorcare will hold their Valentine's Breakfast. Several Board members
plan on attending the event.
Seniorcare, Inc. COA Appreciation Event was held on January 13 in Beverly, Susan Feeney
and Bob Hobbs from the Board attended as well as MaryAnn, Sam and Tess.
Elders at Risk task force meeting was held on January 30
Mary Ann met with Kathleen Feldman, new City Councilor for Ward 5.
"Age Friendly Salem Initiative" meeting with Patricia Zaido, Gin Wallace and Gary Moffie on
January 29
Library is applying for a holistic health and wellness grant and including Seniors on that grant
application.
Grandparents Support Group meets Thursday February 6 th at 10:00 am.
Staff meeting job description review is underway.
Personnel Updates
Outreach Coordinator vacancy still open position is for 19 % hours per week.
Transportation Coordinator position, full -time, 35 hrs. is still open.
Twenty participants took place in a MarTap Driver Training at the BCOA.
BCOA currently has fifty active knitters creating caps and lap blankets for hospitals and seniors.
Committee Reports
Grant Committee - Grant Committee met today before the board meeting and approved funds
for an air purifier to a senior applicant.
Awards Committee — will meet in April in advance of the Sr. of the Year nomination process.
Unfinished Business:
City Councilor invitations to attend Board meeting - Councilor Flaherty was unable to attend
today's meeting as per his response to our invitation. Councilor Estelle Rand will be invited to
attend the March meeting.
New Business:
Two attachments were included in the packet to be discussed at the March 5, 2020 Board
meeting.
1. Capital Budget Priorities - request to the City on February 3, 2020
2. Curtis Strategies role clarification progress for staff
Change of meeting date for March 2020 discussed as we are not allowed to hold our meeting on
the same day as the Primary Election on March 3. The Board agreed to meet on Thursday,
March 5, 2020 at 2:30p.m.
