MINUTES
June 7, 2001
Beverly Public Library
PRESENT: J. Frates, A. Wheeloek, T. Birner, A. Burns, C. Raymond
GUESTS: L. Bochynski, T. Cassidy, and Representatives of the Salem Whale Watch
& Cruise Co.
J. Frates opened the meeting, and asked if there was any public input. There was none.
J. Frates stated that they would like to review the bids for the Excursion Boat, that were
due on Monday @ noon. Mr. Blair put in a proposal. Mr. Frates stated that he met with
a sub-committee and would like to make a recommendation that they send a letter to City
Hall stating that all present would like to accept Mr. Blair's Proposal. J. Frates stated that
the parking could cause a problem, but they will phase in the operation.
There was discussion on a small food service in the McDonald's building to serve as a
commissary and possibly for the area. The boat would be at the end of the pier. L.
Bochynski and the Harbormaster met with Mr. Blair and they think that this is feasible.
In the future there may be a water taxi. There was a question of what would happen if
there were a visiting boat. The answer was that the Harbormaster may place it or
possibly Mr. Blair may be out of town. All utilities to be paid by Mr. Blair.
A. Burns asked about an individual who might want to purchase a ticket. Mr. Blair stated
that there might be some demand for this it is not feasible at this point.
T. Bimer made a motion to approve the City enter into a lease with Mr. Blair. A.
Wheelock seconded and all present approved.
There was a review of the "Shoelace Footbridge" dedication. A. Bums gave a synopsis.
J. Frates - budget - all present went over this. A. Burns made a motion to accept. T.
Birner seconded and all present approved.
There is a hearing about the Beverly Port Marina coming up on June 12 @ 10.00 @ 1
Winter Street, 3" floor.
P. Allen sent a note of thanks.
All present reviewed minutes of last meeting.
D. L'Italien spoke to C. Raymond regarding the gates that are locked at Tuck Point. This
will need to be researched.
T. Cassidy stated that the Cecil Group is here to present what he has so far. T. Cassidy
stated that if anyone can think of anything that should be added or changed, please call
her.
A. Wheelock stated that he wants to see the Federal Channel protected.
All discussed that the next meeting would be the day aider the holiday, and many are
going to be away, so they thought it best to cancel the July meeting. The next meeting
will be in August.
T. Birner made a motion to adjourn.
