Board of Director's Meeting

Meeting called to order: 2:40 pm
Secretary's Report: Minutes were accepted as written.
Director's Report
Power loss on October 17 & 18 caused an early closing on both days; Mobile Market along with
all programs were canceled.
Request was made to attorneys holding funds from former Friends of COA to release the balance
of the funds, approximately $8500
The carpeting for the front lobby is on order.
The Beverly Democratic Committee will be using the building at the end of November.
Mayor's Master Plan Public Meeting will take place in December. TBA
Administration and Finance
YTD `20 Budget reviewed.
Formula Grant budget due to the state on November 15; also, due that date is the Annual Report
to the State.
Seniorcare, Inc. Title III b funding increase- The Title IIIb contract needs some revisions based
on review by City Solicitor, Stephanie Williams. Seniorcare is working with their attorney to
make changes.
Policy reviewed on candidates visits during the election season.
New waiver /release of liability statement was implemented as advised by the City Solicitor.
2007 van is still on site - Purchasing Agent is working on the sale of the van.
Change to Seniorcare, Inc. "Traveling Chef' is now a monthly event will become a quarterly
event in 2020.
Programs and Events
CBD Presentation on October 8 1h went well and was well attended.
Domestic Violence panel held on October 17 at 10 -1 lAM was canceled due to power loss in
building.
Halloween Party held on October 31S ; great costumes and a good time was had by all.
"Talks with Tess" underway for people to meet the new Activities Coordinator and share ideas
for the Center. Dates scheduled: November 5 - noon to 12:30pm Rec Room a
November 7- 4:00 -4:30 pm held in Rec Room A. November 8 — 9 -9:30 am in the dining room.
Veterans Day Breakfast will be held on November 7th at 9 am. Catering by Cafe Salerno and
sponsored by Aberdeen Home Care and the Residence at Riverbend.
Thanksgiving Luncheon to be held on November 21 st
Master Plan Stakeholder meeting on November 12 at 11 am an opportunity for seniors to weigh
in on ideas for the future of Beverly.
The Center will be collecting donations for Holiday gift Baskets for homebound seniors.
Community Engagement
Breakfast Club will meet next at Beverly High School on November 14 at 8:15 am.
Hannah School Project to take place on November 26.
Game Night Thursday November 7 th grilled cheese and tomato soup will be served. Sign up at
the front desk in advance held in Rec Room A and B.
Meetings /Activities Clients /Clients /Clients of Concern
Meeting with Beverly Main Streets regarding ideas for an AARP Community Challenge Grant
Resolution for client refusing to wear a seatbelt on a COA Vehicle includes the new waiver of
liability provided by the City Solicitor.
New Business
Susan Feeney attended the Mass Council on Aging Meeting Conference as a volunteer. She
shared some of the things that she learned with the Board. She attended a session on rebranding
the Senior Center. MaryAnn suggested that she write a column on the topic for the newsletter to
gauge people's interest. MaryAnn also reminded board that the Peabody COA changes back to
Senior Center from Community Life Center so that no one is confused about the purpose of the
facilities and programs.
Personnel Updates
Activities Coordinator, Tess Conley started on October 10.
Bill Burke, formerly of the School Department has stepped out of retirement to work 28 hours a
week in transportation.
SSU interns meeting with SSU supervisors this month.
There is currently a vacancy for a 19.5 hour Outreach Coordinator and for a full time
Transportation Coordinator.
