Management Contract:
Mr. Kenney announced that the four charitable groups that have been awarded the
city's four outing dates for 2003 are as follows:
1. Beverly Chamber of Commerce
2. First Night Beverly
3. The Andrew P. Hawryluk Scholarship Fund
4. The Beverly Affordable Housing Coalition
Next, the Commission discussed the proposed 2003 rates for golf carts and greens
fees. Mr. Doug Johnson stated that he used the rates for 2001 to set the resident weekend
rates for 2003. Marty Lawler asked Doug Johnson if the difference in fees between
residents and non-residents is consistent with other clubs. Mr. Johnson said that it was in
the ballpark. Kevin Hobin asked about the price for cart rentals. Mr. Johnson said that
since the price of gas has gone up, he raised the price up one dollar. Mr. Johnson assured
him that he had no intentions of pricing ourselves out the market. Elliot Margolis said
that he had a problem with the differences of the increases of the residents over the non-
residents. Doug Johnson said that the residents are still getting a break and that he was
still lower than other clubs. He also said that golfers could purchase a discount pass that
would offer savings to frequent golfers. Marty Lawler commented that since this was

Johnson's first full year he should be given leeway, and if he does well, in the future
maybe he could give a break to the residents. He said that we had to take into
consideration the conditions of the course and the fact that we got a late start. However,
Marty Lawler said that the percent of increase in fees should be equal, and that the
residents should get a 10% discount over the non-residents on the discount pass. Mr.
Johnson said that he would do that and new cards would be made for the residents and
non-residents.
A motion was made by Marty Lawier to accept the rates and recommend them to the
City Council for approval. Elliot Margolis seconded the motion, which was passed
unanimously.
Facilities:
Mr. Kenney handed out a memo from Ray Bouchard to Tom Durkin explaining the
appropriation requirements for the veranda replacement and associated work showing.
how he arrived at the $715,000 figure. Mr. Kenney also said the changes to the ramp
leading up to the veranda will be part of the next phase of renovations that will include
ADA compliance. Next, he passed out the year-to-date budget report for the veranda
project so that the Commission would be able to track the budget. A copy of Appendix F
regarding maintenance of Beverly Golf and Tennis Club was handed out as a reference.
Kevin Hobin announced that the Building Commission had approved the 150 metal
lockers for the men's locker room.
In regard to the Practice Range, Mr. Johnson said that he would like to move ahead
with the project but was concerned that the neighbors would complain. He wants to be
sure the neighbors are included in the decision about the design. It was suggested that he
bring a plan of design and invite the abutters to meet with him for an on site visit.
Adjournment:
Larry Nelson made a motion to adjourn the meeting at 6:45 p.m. Kevin Hobin
seconded the motion with all in favor. The next regular Commission meeting is
