Cotreau, Recording Secretary MINUTES OF SEPTEMBER MONTHLY MEETING: October 10, 2001 All Members were present except Mr. Altshuler, Mr. Crimmins, and Mrs. Murphy. Others in attendance: Marc Fortier - Salem Evening News, and Scott Blatchford representing Friel Golf. Mr. Kenney called the meeting to order at 7:38 p.m. Mr. Bennett made a motion to accept the minutes of the last meeting. Mr. Walo seconded with all in favor. COMMITTEE REPORTS: Facilities: Nothing to report. Policy & Grievance: Nothing to report. Badge, Audit, and Long Range Planning: Nothing to report. Old Business: Nothing to report. New Business: Mr. Kenney sent a written request to Jay Leonard at Friel Golf for various lists that are needed to manage the club operations. The requests are for a list of people who have made reservations for fucntions at the club next year, a list of permit holders, a list of permit holder waiting list, and a list of people who have made reservations for golf outings for next year. Since Friel Golf has cancelled all events for the next year, and sent back everyone's deposits. Mr. Kenney is trying to ensure that Johnson Golf has contacted all affected customers. Mr. Kenney reported that Johnson Golf has been honoring the pricing and dates of events that were scheduled for 2002. Scott Blatchford states that Jay Leonard would be faxing these lists to Mr. Kenney on October 11, 2001. Mr. Bennett heard that Friel Golf is closing the club in a few weeks, and questioned Mr. Blatchford about this issue. Mr. Blatchford stated that all employees received notification that November 24, 2001 will be their last day of work. Mr. Bennett said the club has never been closed during the winter months. It is always open for coffee, drinks, use of the card room etc. He also questions the fact that pipes and the boiler need to be constantly maintained in this type of weather. Mr. Hobin stated that the Recreation Department also uses the clubhouse for an exercise class as well. He questioned how the class would gain access to the building if it is locked. Mr. Bennett made a motion to have Marshall Handly, City Solicitor contact Friel Golf in regards to these issues. Mr. Hobin seconded. The commission then had numerous questions in regards to this issue. Mr. Kenney moved the question since Beverly Golf & Tennis Commission Minutes of Monthly Meeting Page 2 of 2 there are no answers until Mr. Handly contacts Friel Golf. All commission members voted in favor except Mr. O'Leary. Mrs. Grimes announced that this meeting would be her last meeting. She has resigned to pursue her campaign for city council and other interests. Sbe stated that she has learned a lot, and has really enjoyed being a member of the commission. Mr. Bennett made a motion to formally thank Mrs. Grimes for her work as a commission member. Mr. O'Leary seconded with all in favor. Sales Report: Mr. Farrell submitted the September Sales report. Mr. Walo made a motion to adjourn the meeting at 8:06 p.m. Seconded by Mr. Bennett with all in favor.
