1. Long Nails - Biet Nguyen/203 Cabot Street/Sign(cont.)
Ms. Zambernardi states to Mr. Nguyen that the Board reviewed his application at their
October 2, 2003 meeting. She also states that the Board suggested at the last meeting that
there are too many different fonts on the sign and feels that the same font will create a
cleaner sign.
Mr. Nguyen states that the new design will be gold leaf on red. They will reuse the
existing board which is ½” pvc. The letters for the words “Long Nails” will be raised.
The Board asks various questions regarding gold leafing or gold paint. The Board also
shows their concern over the window signage. Mr. Haring is concerned with the size and
character of the window displays in the right and left windows.
Mr. Nguyen agrees to remove the window display. He asks if he can use vinyl lettering.
Mr. Haring motions to accept the design with the condition that the edges of the ½”
raised lettering have the same gold leaf coloring as the face of the letters. They also
requested that the “decals” on the left and right windows be removed. Any new window
signage must conform to the City’s current sign ordinance. Ms. Bruce seconds, motion
carries 3-0.
2. Cummings Properties - 950 Cummings Center/Site Plan Review (cont.)
Mr. Pascavage approaches the Board with a revised design of a building he wishes to
build as an attachment to the parking garage on the Elliott and McKay Streets location of
this property. Mr. Pascavage states they revised the front of the building to provide more
elbow room from the street on a pedestrian level. He also touches base on the public
acceptance of the new building on Balch Street and their open house.

Ms. Zambernardi questions the mechanicals making noise disturbing neighbors.
Mr. Pascavage responds to the distance of the neighbors and feels they will not be
disturbed.
Mr. Finch asks Mr. Pascavage about balconies.
Finch and Bruce concur they are concerned about creating a pedestrian scale on the street
side.
Haring motions to accept with the following recommendations. They request that the
width and depth of the projecting bay on the south elevation be reduced to the size of the
bays on the west and east elevation. They also ask that the face of the projecting bay on
the south elevation be broken up with architectural detail and that additional tall trees be
planted along the south edge between the proposed building and the sidewalk. Seconded
by Finch. Motion carries 3-0.
