Ms. Hurlburt called the meeting to order at 6:30 p.m.
Mr. Finch arrives at 7:35 p.m.
1. Bath & Body Works - Steven Supinski / 53 Dodge Street / Sign
Steven Supinski approaches the board on behalf of Bath & Body Works regarding
a sign. A picture was given to the board of the location. The sign will be 12' by 2' and
placed over the main entrance. It will be internally illuminated, green lettering with
letters approximately 14" high.
Ms. Hurlburt accepts the design and colors. She asks Mr. Supinski to go to Mr. Brennan
to check code compliance because sign could be larger than allowed.
Ms. Palardy motions to accept the design, seconded by Ms. O'Brien.
Motion carried 3-0.

2. Silva Tire Depot - Mike Vacca / 383 Cabot Street / Sign
Mr. Vacca of Vacca Sign Service approaches the board on behalf of Silva Tire Depot.
Silva Tire Depot wishes to replace their current wall sign with two internally illuminated
3' x 12' signs.

Mr. Vacca presents a computer printout of the sign to the board. The colors, which
appear darker on sample are trademark colors of T3.
Ms. Palardy and Ms. Hurlburt question which signs on the building will be removed
stating the code allows only 2 signs. They also state that the applicant must present this
proposal to Mr. Brennan for conforming regulations.
Ms. Palardy states she would like an opaque sign with only letters illuminated at night
and a sample "swatch" of the colors to be used.
The Board states there are too many questions to approve design and requests that the
applicant come back at next meeting.
3. North Shore Community College - George Neunaber & Suzanne Rowell / Rantoul
Street / Sign
Mr. George Neunaber on behalf of NSCC and Suzanne Rowell of Grey Wolf
Graphics approach the board on behalf of NSCC. The wish to place two signs on their
new building on Rantoul Street. The largest sign will be 8' x 14', white on navy blue
non-illuminated. This sign will read North Shore Community College on 4 lines. The
smaller sign being of the same design will read Applied Technology Center.
Mr. Neunaber, representing a state agency, asks if they are exempt from ordinance
guidelines. Ms. Hurlburt states that he needs to check with Building Inspector Tim
Brennan.
Ms. Hurlburt requests that the website address be removed from the larger sign.
Ms. Palardy motions to accept design pending Mr. Brennan's approval, seconded by
Ms. O'Brien.
Motion carried 3-0.

4. Dunkin' Donuts - / Dinart Serpa / 112 Elliott Street / Sign
Mr. Serpa approaches the Board with samples of the two signs he wishes to post for the
new Dunkin' Donuts on Elliott Street. He also states that part of the building space
will be for "Togo's Great Sandwich". He continues to explain this sandwich shop
franchise is also owned by Dunkin' Donuts. This space will remain separate. He states
the wall sign will be 8' x 4' with gold lettering and the freestanding sign will be
5' x 6' internally illuminated. The colors on the signs would consist of green, gold, dusty
pink, orange and magenta pink.
Ms. Hurlburt questions the variety of colors on both signs and would like to see external
illumination on the pole sign.
Ms. Palardy questions the color schemes, having two companies on one pole sign and
suggests if going opaque would make the sign more attractive.
Ms. Finch agrees with the suggestion of going opaque.
Ms. O'Brien also questions the various colors on the two signs.
Ms. Hurlburt recommends that both signs be wood signs with external illumination.
The board discusses briefly the colors in question and asks Mr. Serpa to submit new
designs with new colors.
Mr. Serpa agrees to submit new drawings.
5. Beverly National Bank - C. Michael Lawler / Cabot Street / Sign
Mr. Lawler approaches the board with a drawing of a projecting wall sign / clock that
Beverly National Bank wishes to install. The sign will be of black smaltz ground glass
with gold trim. It wiil have a numerical clock and the letters "ATM" below the clock.
The sign / clock will be 6 ½'L x 5'W x 8"Thick. The lettering will be of opaque with an
internal sensor. The sign is two sided. The lettering will be 6.5". The sign will have a 5
second delay changing over to the temperature. Mr. Lawler states the Bank wishes to
provide this public service as well as advertise their ATM location.
Ms. Palardy likes the color scheme and the antique look but questions the ATM
advertisement on sign. She also questions the appearance of the sign straight on.
Mr. Finch questions the ordinance on interval time. He also states he has no problem
with the ATM lettering. He states he likes the sign.

Ms. Hurlburt asks if the ATM can be removed from the sign. She questions if the letters
will be illuminated at night. She also questions Mr. Finch for his Historical opinion.
Mr. Lawler states that identifying the ATM location is very important to the bank.
Mr. Finch motions to accept the design of the sign / clock, seconded by Ms. Palardy.
Ms. Hurlburt opposed.
Motion carries 3-1.
7. Approval of Minutes
Ms. Hurlburt asks the board to approve minutes of January 4, 2001.
Seconded by Ms. O'Brien. Ms. Palardy abstains.
Motion carries 3-1.
