Pearl
James Younger
Allison Crosbie, Staff Planner
Eileen Sacco
Finch called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m.
Determination of Historic Significance for CPC Funding — Hale House Landscape
Finch reports that he visited the site and notes that the landscaping is degraded, however he
thinks that there is some historic significance. He notes that the gardens at the Hale House were
listed in the Garden Colony and Estates published in the 1930s.
Pearl asks if the treatment proposed would be to restore it, noting that the CPA funds are for
preservation or rehabilitation. Finch states that the applicant has indicated that the landscape
retains only those characteristics which time has not erased, noting a number of specimen trees,
but fortunately the original acreage of the site associated with the National Register designation
is intact with no intrusions or alterations.
There being no further questions or comments regarding this matter:
Pearl: Motion to clarify the Commission's previous action regarding the historic
significance of the Hale House to include the house and the landscape. LaMont
seconds the motion. The motion carries (4 -0).
Demolition Application — 15 Sunnycrest Avenue
Crosbie explains that the Commission has received an application for the Demolition of a house
At 15 Sunnycrest Avenue. She asks the Commission to determine if a Public Hearing needs to
be scheduled for this application.

Crosbie explains that the owner wishes to demolish the house to provide access for an OSRD
development. She notes that she emailed pictures of the house to members for their review.
Finch states that to him this house is a nice example of a late Queen Anne style house but it is
not extraordinary. Finch states that he conferred with Mr. Younger and agrees that they should
have a public hearing on this matter. He states that there could be an option to move the house to
another location.
Pearl states that she thinks that this style is unusual for Ryal Side and notes that there could be a
story about this, noting the owner of the land and that it seems like it was a modest estate. She
states that she agrees that a public hearing would be in order.
Pearl: Motion to schedule a public hearing on the Request for Demolition at 15
Sunnycrest Avenue. LaMont seconds the motion. The motion carries (4 -0).
Adjournment
There being no further business to come before the Beverly Historic Commission this evening,
LaMont moved to adjourn the meeting. Pearl seconds the motion. The motion carries (4 -0).
