William Finch, Chair, Suzanne LaMont, Martin Lian, and Wendy Pearl James Younger Allison Crosbie, Staff Planner Eileen Sacco Finch called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m. Determination of Historic Significance for CPC Funding — Hale House Landscape Finch reports that he visited the site and notes that the landscaping is degraded, however he thinks that there is some historic significance. He notes that the gardens at the Hale House were listed in the Garden Colony and Estates published in the 1930s. Pearl asks if the treatment proposed would be to restore it, noting that the CPA funds are for preservation or rehabilitation. Finch states that the applicant has indicated that the landscape retains only those characteristics which time has not erased, noting a number of specimen trees, but fortunately the original acreage of the site associated with the National Register designation is intact with no intrusions or alterations. There being no further questions or comments regarding this matter: Pearl: Motion to clarify the Commission's previous action regarding the historic significance of the Hale House to include the house and the landscape. LaMont seconds the motion. The motion carries (4 -0). Demolition Application — 15 Sunnycrest Avenue Crosbie explains that the Commission has received an application for the Demolition of a house At 15 Sunnycrest Avenue. She asks the Commission to determine if a Public Hearing needs to be scheduled for this application. Page 1 of 2 Beverly Historic Commission Minutes — March 23, 2016 Crosbie explains that the owner wishes to demolish the house to provide access for an OSRD development. She notes that she emailed pictures of the house to members for their review. Finch states that to him this house is a nice example of a late Queen Anne style house but it is not extraordinary. Finch states that he conferred with Mr. Younger and agrees that they should have a public hearing on this matter. He states that there could be an option to move the house to another location. Pearl states that she thinks that this style is unusual for Ryal Side and notes that there could be a story about this, noting the owner of the land and that it seems like it was a modest estate. She states that she agrees that a public hearing would be in order. Pearl: Motion to schedule a public hearing on the Request for Demolition at 15 Sunnycrest Avenue. LaMont seconds the motion. The motion carries (4 -0). Adjournment There being no further business to come before the Beverly Historic Commission this evening, LaMont moved to adjourn the meeting. Pearl seconds the motion.
