Public Meeting Minutes
Board: Council on Aging
Subcommittee: Building Subcommittee
Date: Tuesday, June 8, 2004
Place: Beverly Council on Aging/Senior Community Center
Board Members present: Robert Marshall, Bruce Doig, Tom Scully, Joe Dettorre
Others present: Leslee Breen, BCOA Director; Bill Burke, Director, Beverly Board of Health;
Gerry Guilebbe, Director, Veterans Services
Tom called meeting to order at 9:00 a.m.
Tom introduced everyone and stated the reason that the subcommittee was meeting: to discuss whether an
addition to the senior center to house Veterans Services, Board of Health, and possibly the ADA
Coordinator is wanted or feasible. The idea is being introduced because the GAR Hall is not adequate for
Veterans Services, the Board of Health (BOH) offices are too small, moving the BOH would free up more
space for the senior center, and the services are complementary.
The group discussed the pros and cons and commitments for the building (i.e., the veterans have a
meeting one time a month in the evening, parking would be affected, service to the kitchen area must be
maintained, could police and fire training be moved to airport?)
Hopefully money from the sale of the GAR Hall, along with grants, can be used to pay for the addition.
The group toured around the property for potential sites.
Tom will call one of the original architects of the senior center and ask for a consultation meeting. He will
then write up a needs statement. Tom will report back to the group.
