2004-05-04City of Beverly, Massachusetts Public Meeting Minutes Board: Council on Aging Subcommittee: n/a Date: Tuesday, May 4, 2004 Place: Beverly Council on Aging/Senior Community Center Board Members present: Robert Marshall, Bruce Doig, Tom Scully, Kathy Burns, Mary Lou Mital, Robert Murphy, Cynthia Montalbano, Brad Gaige Board Members absent: Joe Dettorre, Peter Nuccio Others present: Leslee Breen, Director Cynthia called meeting to order at 2:35 p.m. Brad Gaige was introduced as a new board members. Introductions were made. SECRETARY’S REPORT: April minutes were approved as read. DIRECTOR’S REPORT: Building use for April was 2 Recreation Department and 4 Beano. Beano account stands at $15,977.92 as of 4/21/04, previous personnel issues were addressed. Bob Murphy was thanked for his help with the senior leaf raking/clean up day. COMMITTEE REPORTS: Returns from the Friends mass mailing fundraising letter has been good and steady. Over $3,000 has been raised at this point. Still in the process of repairing the upstairs heating/cooling system. LEGISLATIVE REPORT: Last week it was reported by MCOA that the COA line item was increased 10%. Only the beginning, but a good sign to start with. OLD BUSINESS: A. Writing Class/Historical Documentation-Leslee reported that the project was still on hold. Since MaryLou is back she will assist in moving this project forward. Peter, Bob, and Joe have agreed to try and assist. B. Traffic Light- Bob Murphy reported that the City can probably provide half of the $40,00 cost for the light but asked where is the other half coming from (no idea!). Surveys are currently being done to meet the requirements. C. Update Subcommittees-Updated list was distributed. D. Board Vacancy- Brad Gaige, Branch Business Development Officer with the Beverly National Bank has been approved-welcome! NEW BUSINESS: A. Bob Marshall stated that volunteers are needed for the financial “back room” for Beano. PUBLIC COMMENTS: None ANNOUNCEMENTS: Kathy announced she attended a conference last week that was sponsored by the North Shore Association of Councils on Aging and planned by Leslee and offered her congratulations about the content and success of the conference. The meeting was adjourned. NEXT MEETING: JUNE 1, 2004 AT 2:30 p.m. at the Senior Center.
