Susan called the meeting to order at 2:30 p.m.
SECRETARY’S REPORT:
The reading of the minutes of the January Meeting were dispensed with, and accepted as
submitted. (Joe with motion, Margaret with second)
DIRECTOR’S REPORT:
Leslee reported on the presentation by the Secretary of Elder Affairs, Lillian Glickman,
of Governor Swifts yearly budget. This event took place at the Senior Center on
Tuesday, Feb. 5. Thirty people were in attendance including Mayor Crean.
A Super bowl Party was held at the Center and a large crowd of 50 enjoyed the
excitement and festivities. Leslee spoke of the progress of the parking area across the
street from the center, and the concern of neighbors who are adjacent to the area. These
concerns have been addressed, and are currently being looked into.
COMMITTEE REPORTS:
From the Friends Meeting a request for volunteers from the Board of Directors to help in
the running of a Casino night in October 2002,as a fundraiser was discussed. Three
members volunteered, and more information on the event will be presented at future
meetings.
The Board Development Committee and the Legislative Committee met during
the past month, and brief reports were presented
LEGISLATIVE REPORT:
Leslie reported that at a statewide MCOA meeting a letter from the National
Organization stated that the President’s budget included cuts to Seniors. It was not a
senior friendly budget proposal. She would keep us informed of these cuts and
mentioned at this time cuts in prescription drugs for seniors.
OLD BUSINESS:
Susan Albiero-Gadbois gave a presentation to the Board on the Chain of Services to the
Elders from the Federal Government down to the City Level. Services and pertinent
information to board members at each level were explained. Sue is currently doing an
extensive study on this topic, and will continue to educate the board so that we will be
better informed about services to seniors.
