SECRETARY’S REPORT:
The reading of the minutes of the June meeting was dispensed and accepted as presented.
(Bob with motion, Margaret with second)
DIRECTOR’S REPORT:
Leslee updated the committee on her findings from the State that a House Authority representative does
not have to serve on the BCOA. Steps are being taken to inform the City of this report. Jack Hook, an
active member of the Senior Center passed away on 8/5/02, and flowers and condolences have been sent
from the Council. The process has been completed and the van is on the road and two new mini-buses
have arrived. The department of transportation at the center and the scheduling of workers are presently
being revamped. We are in need of one more driver, but presently do not have the funds to pay for this
position. Leslie is in the process of advertising for a part-time driver. Discussion of how the fact that the
position of a new full-time driver was cut from this year’s city budget has affected the problems of
providing for the transportation needs of our senior citizens followed.
COMMITTEE REPORTS: No reports given.
LEGISLATIVE REPORT:
Leslie stated that the news was not good. State government has slashed more grants, and that we have
been taken three hits. One example is that the amount given for each elder has been cut from $5.00 to
$4.93 and that may not be the final figure.
OLD BUSINESS:
Susan presented the Committee assignments of the Board of Directors for the coming year.
One committee will meet each month for the next 5 months. Kathy Burns and Bob Marshall were
notified that they have been reappointed to the Board by the Mayor’s Office. Beverly Cable is not yet set
up to use the Center, and it is delayed until it reaches some agreements with the City. Bob gave a report
on his findings of selling bricks as a fundraiser. The cost is $22/ brick at Give Lumber, and he has found
that they sell to the public from$100 to $500. They would be placed on walkways around the Center. The
Building Use and Maintenance Committee will meet to make recommendations of how to proceed in
initiating this fundraiser. This will be presented at the September meeting. (Bob with motion, Kathy with
second.)
The meeting was adjoined at 3:45 p.m.
NEXT MEETING: September 3, 2002, 2:30 p.m. at the Senior Center.
