2001-04-03City of Beverly, Massachusetts Public Meeting Minutes Board: Council on Aging Subcommittee: Date: April 3, 2001 Place: Beverly Council on Aging/Senior Community Center Board members present: Bob Marshall, Tom Scully, Cynthia Montalbano, Joan Fairbank, Margaret Sullivan, Joe Dettorre Board members absent: Kathy Burns, Susan Albiero-Gadbois, Mary Lou Mital Others present: Leslee Breen, Executive Director, BCOA Recorder: Leslee Breen Bob Marshall called the meeting to order at 1:55 p.m. SECRETARY’S REPORT: The minutes from the February 6, 2001 meeting were approved (Joan with motion, Joe with second). NOTE: March meeting cancelled due to inclement weather. DIRECTOR’S REPORT: Leslee reported on building usage and provided a financial review. Leslee reported that the new bus should be here by the end of April and the wheelchair van is in the process of being repaired. Leslee reported that Larry Ball, Driver, resigned at the end of February. Director’s report accepted (Joan with motion, Joe with second). Leslee th announced that the Mayor would be attending the April 17 Friends meeting. All are welcome to attend. Leslee reported that it appears that the Beverly National Bank will be the sole sponsor of this year’s Senior Day in the Park. COMMITTEE REPORTS: Rules: The Rules Committee presented the new by-laws for approval. Joe with motion and Cynthia with second. Approved. Finance: The Finance Committee presented the Council’s FY 01-02 budget. Budget approved with amended changes (Joan with motion, Joe with second). Friends: No report. OLD BUSINESS: Tax Abatement-In process. Sprinklers-Waiting on estimates. Outreach Programs- Leslee reported that informational cards about the Council went out with the City’s water bills at the end of March. She showed an example of the card. Leslee reported that the May newsletter would be mass mailed to over 19,000 people. Open House-Leslee reported that the plans for the Open House are going well. The date th is May 15 from 9:00 a.m.-7:00 p.m. Please try to attend. NEW BUSINESS: People Profile-Susan wanted to know if anyone would be willing to write the monthly People Profile because she is pressed for time. No one volunteered. The Board made the recommendation to see if someone from the writing group would be interested. Transportation Policies-Leslee discussed a case of a client who takes transportation and asked the Board for their advice. E-mail- The Board asked if the Council had an e-mail address. Leslee explained that the individual staff members had e-mail. The Board asked if Leslee could follow-up with the City’s MIS Department to see if this is feasible.
