Susan called the meeting to order at 1:50 p.m.
SECRETARY’S REPORT:
The minutes from the April 3, 2001 meeting were approved (Kathy with motion, Bob with
second).
DIRECTOR’S REPORT:
Leslee reported on building usage and provided a financial review. Leslee reported that a

new driver began on Monday, April 30. She also reported that Archie is out on medical
leave. Having new staff and other staff out has been hard on the Transportation
Department. Attendance is up and there are lots of new people. She reported that an
Albanian family is now coming daily for lunch. She reported the new bus was delivered
and is in use.
COMMITTEE REPORTS:

Friends: The Friends met on April 17. The Mayor joined their meeting. Three main issues
were discussed: parking across the street, building addition, and getting vehicles. Bob
discussed the fact that Peter wants to retire from running the Beano. Leslee reiterated that
if there is no one to take over the loss of revenue would be enormous.
LEGISLATIVE REPORT:
Leslee reported that the State Formula grant is completed and waiting for the Mayor’s
signature. She also reported that President Bush’s FY 2002 budget proposal is not senior
friendly-especially toward senior employment programs.
OLD BUSINESS:
Tax Abatement-In process.
Open House-Leslee reported that the plans for the Open House are going well. The date is

May 15 from 9:00 a.m.-7:00 p.m. Please try to attend.
E-Mail-Leslee reported that the Council now has an e-mail address:
beverlycoa.ci.beverlyl.ma.us. The address is linked to Leslee’s e-mail so a response can be
given if necessary.
NEW BUSINESS:
Upcoming Election-Leslee reminded everyone that the slate for next year’s officers would
be completed at the June meeting. Leslee will contact Joe D. to see if he wishes to be
reappointed.
Vehicle Request-Leslee read a letter from Mr. Charles Clark, Chairman, Beverly Veterans

Council requested the use of the bus for the May 27 Memorial Day parade. The Board
agreed to let him use the vehicle if a City employee drives the vehicle.
E-mail- The Board asked if the Council had an e-mail address. Leslee explained that the
individual staff members had e-mail. The Board asked if Leslee could follow-up with the
City’s MIS Department to see if this is feasible.
