2000-10-03City of Beverly, Massachusetts Public Meeting Minutes Board: Council on Aging Subcommittee: Date: October 3, 2000 Place: Senior Community Center Board members present: Susan Albiero-Gndbois, Bob Marshall, Kathy Burns, Tom Scully, Cynthia Montalbano, Joan Falrbnnk Board members absent: Joe Dettorre Others present: Leslee Breen, Director; Margaret Sullivan (nominee) Recorder: Leslee Breen The meeting was called to order by Susan Albiero-Gadbois at l:45p.m. SECRETARY'S REPORT: The minutes from the September 5, 2000 meeting were approved (Joan with motion, Bob with second). DIRECTOR'S REPORT: Leslee reported that participation has been good and getting better. Leslee stated that Activities Coordinator, Donna Whipple, has resigned her position effective October 6, 2000. Leslee also reported although she is working 35 hours per week, she is working four days per week with Mondays off. Leslee reported that the Council received a grant from the Medtronic Foundation for the purchase of six new computers/printers for the computer lab and the Council received a state Incentive grant for the Companion Program. The Financial report was accepted. Bingo reports will resume next month. COMMITTEE REPORTS: Both the Communications and Friends met on September 19~. Discussion in both groups centered on the parking area across from the Center. It is still in process. The Rules Subcommittee did not meet as scheduled. OLD BUSINESS: Bus-Leslee reported there was one bidder on the bus and the bus is in the process of being made. Pomh-Leslee reported that the porch would be completed by Winter. Senior Club Rent-Withdrawn by Bob Marshall Property Signs-Leslee reported that the signs have been completed and posted. New Board Members-The Mayor wrote letters to the City Council requesting the reappointment of Susan and the new appointments of Marylou Koczwara and Margaret Sullivan. Tax Abatement-Tom reported that he has not heard whether the issue was heard and will try to find out more information. Letter from Susan to the Police re: Safety of Property-The letter was completed. Fundralser-Cynthia reported that the Halloween Costume Ball will be held on October 28~ and tickets are on sale now. Cynthia encouraged all Board members to attend and/or sell tickets. NEW BUSINESS: Newsletters-Leslee followed up on a request to have the newsletters mailed with the Board information. Leslee reported that this is not possible because the timing of the two mailings is different. Landscape proposal-Leslee reported that a senior has offered to landscape the side of the building (facing Heather Street) but not maintain it. The Board will discuss the pros and cons of this proposal at the next meeting. PUBLIC COMMENTS: None ANNOUNCEMENTS: None The meeting closed at 2:40p.m. The next meeting is on November 7, 2000 at 1:30p.m.
