November 2018 minutesBeverly Council on Aging Board of Directors Meeting Minutes Date: November 7, 2018 Place: BCOA Members Present: Claire -Marie Hart, Bob Hobbs, Susan Feeney, Cynthia Montalbano, Jessica Wistran, Esquire Staff Present: MaryAnn Holak, Jessica Waggett Meeting called to order 2:40 pm Secretary's Report: Minutes were accepted as written from the October meeting. Director's Report Building Concerns and Usage Painting on the exterior doors was completed. Recreation Dept. evening classes start Monday, October 15 and Wednesday October 17 and will run M/W evenings until just after Christmas. Administration and Finance Budget reviewed. Staff Meeting today the focus was on priorities for 2019 Strategic Plan. Conversations on safety measurs at the Senior Center, and how we can improve them. Considerations were cameras by the doors. Mary Ann plans on looking into this and reporting back to the board. Discussion on the Newsletter redesign, the unveiling will take place in January. The Board received a letter regarding the Open Meeting Law, discussion on the Meeting law as well as a handout was given to the Board. Recently MaryAnn, Jessica and attended a training session on the Open Meeting Law. RFP announced by the City of Beverly for solar panels and ground mounted parking canopies. Sr. Center is a potential site. Stephanie Tallo is being considered for a position on the BCOA Board. Programs and Events The City Council approved our donating $100 gift cards to Police and Fire Department, as donated by seniors attending the 9/11 Pancake Breakfast. (Program and Events continued) City Wide sculpture art project- discussions are still underway. Mobile market began November 1s market will run every first and third Thursday. Brookwood 6 graders will be taking part in a 3 -D event named Kids and Seniors. Veteran's breakfast will be held on November 8th Annual Thanksgiving party will be held on November 15 Meetings /Activities /Clients Mary Ann attended the MCOA Conference Oct. 24'- 26 at Seacrest in Falmouth, Ma. Mary Ann has been in contact with the Y Board of Directors, Volunteer Committee, on potential projects. Additional information to follow. Congressman Seth Moulton made a visit to the Center on October 29 MaryAnn participated in a phone interview with Kennedy Smith who is helping Beverly Main Streets develop a Strategic Plan for 2030. MAH will be part of a panel discussion a North Shore /Cape Ann Area health network meeting on November 27. Topic is needs assessment and strategic planning and age friendly communities. Scholarship Committee Met before the Board Meeting approved one scholarship for a replacement dryer. Awards Committee No meeting. Personnel Updates Senior Care has appointed a new kitchen manager for the congregate lunch program and Meals on Wheels delivery. Adjournment: 3:50pm Respectfully Submitted: Cynthia A.
