The Honorable City Council
City Hall
Beverly, MA 01915
Dear Honorable City Council:
I respectfully request that you approve a $1.2M loan authorization for the purchase of parking
equipment for the downtown area. As you may recall, considerable discussion and planning has
gone into the restructuring of the city's parking program, particularly in the down town area.
The result of those discussions was an ordinance change that was recently approved by the City
Council and is slated to take effect this summer. The implementation of this revised strategy will
require the purchase and installation of new metering equipment and enforcement technology. It
is expected that the annual cost to service the debt will be covered by the restructured parking
plan revenues and will necessitate an annual transfer from those revenue sources during the
annual budget development.
This appropriation will require a public hearing be set and held prior to a City Council vote and
that the public hearing be advertised at least ten days prior to the hearing date. I look forward to
discussing this parking plan and the necessary investments at that public hearing. Please initiate
action on this matter this evening. Thank you.
Sincerely yours,
Michael P Cahill
Mayor
