1693-08-14[Selectmen's Meeting August 14, 1693] At a meeting of the selectmen on 14 August, 1693, Jonathan Biles who was Constable for the year 1691, brought this receipt as followeth. Charlestown the 1st June, 1693 Then received of Mr. Jonathan Biles Constable of Beverly, the sum of one hundred seventy eight pounds, fourteen shillings & ten pence, in part of said town's proportion of the twenty four thousand pound rate, & is in full of what he collected by his warrant. I say received Mr. John Phillips, Treasurer At the same meeting then received of Jonathan Biles £ 1:15:00, and he remains in the town's debt £3:04:04 At the same meeting of the selectmen, Hazediah Smith who was Constable for the year 1693, brought this receipt as followeth. Charlestown the 18th May, 1693. Then received of Mr. Hazediah Smith Constable of Beverly, the sum of fifty nine pounds, twelve shillings & six pence, in part of said town's cash assessment. I say received John Phillips, Treasurer At the meeting of the selectmen the 14th August, 1693, then reckoned with Constable Hazediah Smith, for a country rate committed to him bearing the date the 6th of the 2nd month, 1693, and he hath fully paid and discharged said rate both to country & town. At the same meeting of the selectmen then received of Constable John Stone £2:00:04 in money, on account of the town's rate. At the same meeting of the selectmen Constable John Stone brought this receipt as followeth Charlestown first June, 1693. Then received of Mr. John Stone Constable of Beverly, the sum of eighty nine pounds five shillings & six pence, in part of said town's last assessment. I say received John Phillips, Treasurer. At the same meeting of the selectmen then reckoned with Constable John Dodge, & he hath made payment by several payments, to the sum of seven pounds, four shillings & four pence, and he the said Dodge now remains in the town's debt. At a meeting of the selectmen the 14th August, 1693 then received of John Trask the sum of two pounds in money, that is to say twenty shillings by Lieut. Andrew Elliott, the which was due to said Elliott from the town, as record bearing date the 17th March, 1692/3, and said Lieut. Andrew Elliott, is fully paid what is due to him on said record, and twenty shillings in money, the above said two pounds was received of the said John Trask, in part of pay for a certain piece of land sold to the said Trask by the town, and there is yet due to the town from the said John Trask on account of said land, the sum of twenty shillings. Received this 7th of April, 1694, six shillings of the next above 20. At the same meeting of the selectmen, then delivered to Deacon John Hill three pounds in money, to pay to Deacon Peter Woodbury for his service at General Court.
