Report of the Library Director
1) FY2012 Budget: Patricia Cirone met with the Mayor regarding the flooding bills. The Mayor
okayed them to be paid and said that the city would find the money to pay for the flooding bills.
Overall the entire budget is in good shape. 2) Trust Funds: Trust funds lost $2,500 in the first
quarter. 3) Building Issues: There have been problems with the library's phone system. Patricia
Cirone discussed this with the Mayor. The city's IT department will be looking at revamping our
phone system, in combination with other city departments. The city received a green grant and
Mike Collins' first priority is the library's antiquated controls in the HVAC system. This will
save money and also prevent further problems and repairs. The city is moving forward in getting
the security cameras networked. Mike Collins has arranged to have all alarms handled by one
alarm company. 4) Personnel: Pete Fontaine has been hired as the new custodian. 5) Cafe Tables:
The Friends of the Library support the plan to install cafe tables and seating at the Main Library
and the Farms branch. 6) New Website: The library's new website is up. 7) Security: Patricia
Cirone is still waiting to hear back from the police department about the library's security
camera policy. Portable panic buttons should be installed soon. Anna Langstaff and Janice Shaw
have been working on safety procedures. 8) Bookmobile: Moroney hopes to have bookmobile
delivered by March/April. 9) Circulation Figures: Patricia Cirone reviewed circulation figures.
10) Evergreen: Evergreen will be implemented in May. Staff training has started. 11) MassLNC:
Patricia Cirone is on the MassLNC committee to write a business plan for continued cooperation
between the three library consortia. 12) NOBLE: Patricia Cirone is on NOBLE's formula
revision committee to determine libraries' assessments. 13) Meeting with Councilors: Patricia
Cirone will be meeting with the new city councilors on January 25. 14) Long Range Plan:
