2012-01-03BEVERLY PUBLIC SCHOOLS BEVERLY, MASSACHUSETTS January 3, 2012 An Organizational Meeting of the Beverly School Committee was held on Tuesday, January 3, 2012 in the Library at Beverly High School in Beverly, MA. Members Present: David Manzi, Paul Manzo, Maria Decker, Annemarie Cesa, Kris Silverstein, Mayor Scanlon and Matthew Kavanagh Also in Attendance: Dr. Marie E. Galinski, Superintendent of Schools, Dr. Maryellen Duffy, Assistant Superintendent, Jean Sherburne, Director of Finance & Operations and Donna Bergeron, Executive Secretary to the Superintendent and School Committee Dr. Galinski called the meeting to order at 1:10 p.m. Mr. Kavanagh led those assembled in the Pledge of Allegiance. Dr. Galinski stated the reason for the meeting: In accordance with Section B, School Committee Governance and Operations, of the Policy Manual, "An Organizational Meeting shall be held the first week in January at which time the officers of the School Committee shall be elected. " ELECTION OF OFFICERS Office of President Superintendent Galinski declared nominations open for the Office of President. A motion was made by Annemarie Cesa and seconded by Mayor Scanlon to nominate Maria Decker. There were no further nominations. A roll call vote on the nominations resulted in the following: Those in favor of Ms. Decker: Paul Manzo, Mayor Scanlon, Kris Silverstein, David Manzi, Matthew Kavanagh, Maria Decker and Annemarie Cesa. The vote being unanimous, Maria T. Decker was elected President. Superintendent Galinski turned the meeting over to newly elected President Decker. Office of Vice President President Decker declared nominations open for the Office of Vice President. A motion was made by David Manzi and seconded by Kris Silverstein to nominate Paul Manzo. There were no further nominations. A roll call vote on the nominations resulted in the following: Those in favor of Paul Manzo: Annemarie Cesa, Paul Manzo, Mayor Scanlon, Kris Silverstein, David Manzi, Matthew Kavanagh and Maria Decker. The vote being unanimous, Paul A. Manzo was elected Vice - President. Office of Secretary President Decker declared nominations open for the Office of Secretary. A motion was made by David Manzi and seconded by Kris Silverstein to nominate Matthew Kavanagh. There were no further nominations. A roll call vote on the nominations resulted in the following: Those in favor of Matthew Kavanagh: Matthew Kavanagh, Annemarie Cesa, Paul Manzo, Mayor Scanlon, Kris Silverstein, David Manzi and Maria Decker. The vote being unanimous, Matthew J. Kavanagh was elected Secretary. Appointment of Subcommittee Members and Chairperson(s) President Decker announced the members appointed to the following committees: A. Standing Committee on Finance and Facilities — Paul A. Manzo, Chair B. Standing Committee on Curriculum, Instruction and Student Life — Annemarie Cesa, Chair C. Negotiations Committee — Matthew Kavanagh, Chair D. Policy Review Committee — David Manzi, Chair President Decker expressed her appreciation to the school committee members saying that she looks forward to working together. Ms. Decker reminded committee members of the upcoming School Committee Retreat on Saturday, January 7 at Project Adventure. Ms. Decker stated that the Citizen Advisor applications are in the process of being reviewed and will be announced at the next meeting. Motion to Adjourn Annemarie Cesa made a motion to adjourn.
