Joanne Panunzio asked John Kelley to preside over the meeting.
John Kelley presided.
Neil Olson made the motion, seconded by Kevin O'Reilly, to accept the minutes of February 26,
2008 as read. Motion passed.
Public Presentation

Committee Reports
Personnel: John Kelley asked about the timeline for the director's annual review. It was agreed
that the process should begin around May 1 st. John Kelley will draft some questions for the staff
as part of the review process.
Administration: No report.
Finance: No report.
Long Range Planning: No report.
Report of the Library Director
1) Budget: Patricia Cirone reviewed two possible FY09 budget proposals. The "basic" proposal
includes mandatory step increases for staff, increase in Noble fees, and recommended increase in
electricity. The alternative proposal includes the above, plus two part-time 16 hour positions to
staff the 3rd floor, changing a page position at the Farms to library assistant, mileage for Linda
Caravaggio, and security cameras. Neil Olson made the motion, seconded by Roseann Benson,
to:
approve the proposed budget as presented by Patricia Cirone. Motion passed.
2) Police Interaction: Patricia Cirone reported that we continue to have good results and are not
seeing the problems we were having. The letter from the trustees was sent to Chief Ray. 3)
Custodian: Farms/evening custodian has been out on workman's comp for almost one year. An
outside evaluation has determined that he will not be able to work at this time. The personnel
department is moving forward with the termination process. 4) Bookmobile: The Trashfinders
Ball was a great success, raising approximately $1,100. Over $25,000 has been raised so far. A
mailing has been sent out to members of the Chamber of Commerce. The next big fundraiser,
Photography Day, is May 31. The Broadway Review fundraiser will be in September. 5) MBLC:
MBLC reported that the Beverly Public Library will receive additional state aid ($1,194.21) and
matching grant funds ($1,990.70). 6) CD Settlement: The Library will receive $300 from the CD
anti-trust settlement. 7) Upcoming Programs: April 5/6 Eco Film Festival, April 6 Decorator for
a Day, April 16 Friends Annual Meeting "Enjoy the Ride", May 3 through May 11 Book Sale,
April 2 Lizzie Borden and the Forty Whacks, June 7 Farms Library Lawn Party, and on-going
genealogy class.
Communications

Unfinished Business
1) Neil Olson reported that he was misquoted in a recent Salem News article. 2) Still looking for
a replacement for Todd Balf. Re-appointment letters for Joanne Panunzio and Neil Olson have
been submitted.
New Business
None
The next regular meeting of the Board will be Tuesday, April 22, 2008 at 7:00 P.M. at the Main
Library.
There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 8: 10 P.M.
