2008-04-10 BEVERLY GOLF & TENNIS COMMISSION 134 McKay Street Beverly, Massachusetts 01915 Meeting of April 10,2008 Commission Members Jeffrey KLein, Chairman Richard Barger, Vice-Chairman Kevin Ascolillo Chad Crandell Gary Lambert Martin Lawler Douglas Richardson Diane Presutti, Recording Secretary Guests Present: John Dunn, Manny Barros, Jane Ash, Rich Nagle, Bill Loud (Rec Dept. ), Councilor Bill Coughlin and various BGT members. Openin2 Remarks: Mr. Klein welcomed Bass River Management, Manny Barros, as the new manager of the Beverly Golf & Tennis Club. Mr. Klein stated that he is committed to continue with moving forward with our proposal to the Mayor/City Council for an appropriation to make the facility improvements as outlined in the master plan. Approval of Minutes The Minutes of March 10, 2008, were accepted by the Commission. Finance Report Mr. Lawler presented the finance report to the Commission. Mr. Lambert motioned to accept the finance report as presented. Motion accepted. Proposal to City Council Update: Mr. Lawler motioned that the Commission approach the City Council at their May 5, 2008, scheduled Meeting. The elements of the proposal to include: *Replacement of the maintenance building * ADA Repairs to the clubhouse *Golf course improvements as outlined in the Master Plan Motion accepted. Mr. Klein and Mr. Barger will meet prior to the meeting to finalize the draft of the proposal. Beverly Golf & Tennis Mana2ement Team Update: Miss Ash introduced Mr. Rich Nagle, the new Director of Golf for the BGT. She also announced that Chuck Malatesta has been hired as the golf course superintendent and that staffing is nearly complete for the course as well as the clubhouse. Mr. Klein asked that she invite Mr. Malatesta to the next meeting to inform the Commission on the present condition of the course. She also indicated that she has received two quotes for the resurfacing of the tennis courts. Rotundi quoted $14,650, and Westboro quoted $13,850. Mr. Dunn stated that they might need three quotes before he awards the contract. Mr. Barros will investigate the possibility of converting the Raymond Farms construction site into tennis courts and will report back to the Commission. He also asked that the Commission to consider some immediate repairs needed on the clubhouse, the exterior and the kitchen. Mr. Dunn indicated that the boiler would be replaced at the cost of $15,000. He also indicated that the parking lot lines would be repainted within the next six weeks. The Commission asked Ms. Ash to get the kitchen repairs completed so that it will be fully functional and at the next meeting would she give the Commission an outline of some of the offerings at the clubhouse and 19th Hole. Councilor Coughlin greeted the Commission and the Bass River Management Staff. The next meeting is scheduled for May 13, 2008, 7 pm. Meeting adjourned.
