Minutes of September 17, 1998 Meeting
Beverly Public Library
Fogg Room - 7:00 p.m.
In Attendance:
Members: Elise Bernstein, Stephen Reynolds, Norman Ganley, Timothy Hoy, Robert Nelson, and
Kevin Gallant

Stephen Reynolds' Resignation
· Steve R. informed the Commission of his resignation effective September 18, 1998.
· New election
An election for Chairperson was conducted. Norm G. nominated himself and
immediately after Keyin G. nominated himself and proposed the idea of having co-
chairpersons. This idea was accepted by the Commission members that were present.
Norm and Keyin were both unanimously voted in as Co-chairpersons.
II.
The September Agenda was reviewed and accepted.
· There were no Minutes presented for August 20, 1998 meeting. The minutes of August's
meeting will be reviewed and accepted next month.
· Steve R. will re-create the minutes to be presented at next months meeting.
III.
Old Business:
A. HP Space Survey Update
· For those that have not complied, It was decided that a third letter should be sent
certified from either Sgt. Dennis Tarsook or Marshall Handley, City Solicitor.
Norm G. will meet with Marshall and report back.
B. HPP Program Update
· Upon resignation, both Art D. and Steve R. turned their Polaroid cameras in.
C. Beverly Rantoul St. Post Office Celebration
· Tim H. spoke with the postmaster who gave approval for the Commission to have
an "Informal Celebration" which will be held in front of the Post Office. Tim will
contact the newspapers to arrange coverage of this event.
· The tentative date for the informal celebration will take place on Saturday,
October 17, 1998 at 9:00 a.m. Once this date is confirmed, Tim H. will notify
members.
· Elise B. will contact Susan Cole and invite her to the celebration.
D. AAB Matters
· Dunkin Donuts Access
· Bob N. reported that Dunkin Donuts has completed their part in
making their business accessible.
· No progress is noticeable on the city's part.
· Norm G. and Elise B. will meet with Mayor ScanIon to follow up
on project.
· City Hall Access
· Bob N. reported that as of Tuesday, September 22, 1998 all public
meetings will NOT BE held on the second or third floors of City
Hall until the new elevator is completed.
· Norm G. will contact Marshall Hanley regarding the liability with
the railing on City Hall's new ramp.
E. Common Victualer's License
· Elise B. did not have a chance to write the letter to the Licensing Board. She will
report back.
IV. New Business:
A. Two Buildings at Beverly Hospital -- not accessible
· Elise B. reported that the Women's Health Center and Parkburst Building at Beverly
Hospital - are both not accessible to an individual maneuvering a wheelchair through
the front doors. Elise spoke with Bill Scharet from Beverly Hospital who claims that
the hospital does not own the building. Elise will contact the owners and Beverly
Hospital to set up a meeting and follow up.
B. Non-accessible Voting Poll issues
· It was noted by members of the Commission that not all voting polls had accessible
booths set up. Elise B. will bring this matter to Mayor Scardon.
C. Terms expiring soon
· Elise B. term will expire in November. She will notify Mayor ScanIon for
reappointment.
V. The next meeting is October 15, 1998 at 7:00 p.m. at the Beverly Public Library, Fogg
Room.
