LONG RANGE PLANNING !OMMITTEE
-Minutes Ausust 4, 1987-
PRESENT: Committee members: Nancy Bender, Kay Fanning, Kathleen
Henrichon, Fran McCarthy, Susan Salt.
Board of Aldermen: Walter McGlynn
ALSO PRESENT: Neil Olson, Mr. and Mrs. Komich, Toby Shindler, Jack
Coogan, Thomas Scully and Sheila Glowacki.
Nancy Bender called the meeting to order at 7:30.
Nancy Bender welcomed everyone and reported briefly on the
committee I s progress to date.
Thomas Scully presented a prioritized list of proposed capital
projects. Those projects discussed were:
1) Emergency Exits
2) Fire escape
3) Alarm system
4) Water proofing foundation
5) Off site storage
6) Delivery van
7) Parking at Farms
All of the projects proposed would be exclusive of the plan to renovate
the main library.
It was decided to:
1) Refine list of projects
2) Present list to Board of Trustees
3) Work out formal 5 year plan with very careful cost estimates
4) Meet with the mayor and finance committee to discuss
projects and various forms of funding
5) Submit final plan to mayor and board of Aldermen
Mr. Scully then discussed the serious staffing problem. There is currently
a shortage of librarians nationwide and with the high cost of living it
is extremely hard to attract candidates to the North Shore. We are also
having a difficult time hiring parttime help. It was decided to establish
a 5 year plan for staffing also.
