PUBLIC MEETING MINUTES
Board: Beverly Beautification Committee

Hurlburt reported that Community Pride Day is progressing well. She stated that Main
Streets Clean Sweep would coincide with Pride Day. She reported the following
information as well:
-Six inmates will be assigned to clean up the McPherson area.
-Hurlburt suggested finding an artist to paint a mural of Hospital Point on a back
staircase window area.
-Bill Howard of the Beverly Cooperative Bank has donated $500 for City Pride
Day.
-The Beverly Improvement Society donated $200. The Friendly Garden Club
donated $200.
-Super Sub will provide lunch for volunteers.
Shropshire reported other donations. List attached.
Mike Traccia reported on plans for cleaning city council chambers and committee room.
His department will supply the cleaning supplies and will remove all brass hardware for
polishing. The paneling in the committee room will be removed and replaced with new
paneling or the walls will be painted. New carpeting will be installed in the area where
staining has occurred in the Chamber. Color schemes were discussed. There were
concerns about the effects of wall color on video coverage by Bev Cam. Donations are
needed to restore the portrait of Washington. Table will be removed from middle of
chamber. Holes in desks will be filled with material and restained. Benches in chamber
may be rearranged. Councilors' chairs need refinishing. A suggestion was made to add
benches to the committee room.
Kerr reported on the purchase of 14 window boxes to be installed by Phil Klimowitz'
crew and planted on City Pride Day. Shrubs will also be planted.
Hurlburt presented a draft letter to the mayor outlining this committee's
recommendations.
Recommendations will be presented to the City Council at its meeting on May 19, 2003.
The minutes of the meeting of April 15, 2003 were unanimously approved.
Discussion ensued of possible activities for children during City Pride Day.
A photo was taken of the committee for inclusion with the press release on City Pride
Day in the Beverly Citizen.
The meeting was adjourned at 4:00 p.m.
The next meeting of the Committee will be held on June 17, 2003 at 3:00 p.m. in the
Committee Room at City Hall.
