1775-06-19th At a meeting of the Inhabitants of the Town of Beverly June 19 1775. Col. Henry Herrick was chosen Moderator. Voted that the Town will purchase a quantel of grain not exceeding 1500 bushels and [illegible] cash of rice to be for the use and benefit of the Town. Voted that the price to be given for the grain should be 26/ old tenor per bushel and 6 pound old tenor per hundred for the rice. Voted the present Selectmen of this Town be and are hereby empowered and appointed in the name and behalf of this Town to purchase and procure all the above said grain and rice and take care of and dispose with the same in the best manner they can for the use and benefit of the Town. Voted that every person or master of a family or any from, or under, them that shall unnecessarily waste or fire of any charge of powder shall pay a fine of ten shillings for each offense by order th of the Selectmen June 26.1775. Ordered the Treasurer to pay Ichabod Groves 13/4 and Osmon Cox 26/8 for 3 blankets found by them for the Colony Service in Capt. Low’s Company Ordered the treasurer to pay wid. Mary Cox 13/4 for a blanket found for son in the Colony Service in Capt. Francis Company.
