Macdonald City Clerk Beverly, MA 01915 Dear Fran: I hereby request a Special Meeting of the Beverly City Council to be held on Thursday, April 23, 1998 at 7:30 PM, City Council Chamber, Third Floor, Beverly City Hall, for the purpose of discussing police related matters which may include contract negotiations. Part or all of the discussion may be held in Executive Session. Very truly yours, William F. Scanlon, ]r., Mayor Receive and Place on File Council voted to go to Executive Session After Executive Session ended the following press release was issued by Commission of Public Safety, Kenneth C. Pelonzi. PRESS RELEASE April 23, 1998 Commissioner of Public Safety, Kenneth C. Pelonzi, announced that William Terry, 3r., former Deputy Chief of the Beverly Police Department, would take over as Chief of the Beverly Police Department on May 4, 1998. Terry is an experienced law enforcement officer who served the City of Beverly for thirty-eight years and more recently has worked with the Essex County Sheriff's Department. Pelonzi stated that despite the presence of many fine professional officers at all levels with the Beverly Force; the Department was sorely in need of impartial, full-time leadership at the highest level. Pelonzi indicated that Terry's appointment was on an interim basis of not less than one year nor more than two years. Pelonzi added that Mayor Scanlon was very enthusiastic about Chief Terry's appointment and that he and Scanlon wished Terry all possible success. Meeting Adjourned: 7:55 PM CMC Attest: Frances A.
