Members reviewed the proposed renewal of the AT&T Broadband license with the City
of Beverly to operate a cable television system.
It was agreed to include provisions of an I-Net system as provided by AT&T Broadband
in the exhibits to the final document. Also, a list of I-Net locations in order of priority.
It was agreed that a 30-day extension might be possible if requested by the Issuing
Authority to the deadline of May 4, 2002 for establishment of an Access Corp. Such an extension
must be requested in writing and with suitable notice.
Members voted 4-0 to approve the proposed license renewal and recommend its adoption
to the Issuing Authority, Mayor Scanlon. Voting in the affirmative were Dan Murphy, Arthur
Crandall, George Johnson, Robert Lee. Also affirmative was Thomas Scully. Members Al Torsey
and Amy Siemasko were absent.
Members voted 4-0 (Murphy, Crandall, Lee, Johnson) to recommend creation and
establishment of a fiber I-Net system at an initial cost of $330,000. provided by AT&T Broadband
instead of annual payments for 10 years for cable television related expenses. Scully also voted in
the affirmative.
It was proposed that the license renewal would be signed by Mayor Scanlon, the Issuing
Authority, in his offices at City Hall at 11 a.m. on Thursday, April 26,2001. Members of the
Commission, the local press, and other officials of the city and AT&T Broadband will be invited.
Negotiations for license renewal with AT&T Broadband are thus concluded. The Cable
TV Advisory Commission will resume its regular meeting schedule.
